You have the right to form a union at your workplace free from interference from your employer. Here are the steps.
Showing Interest– The Union will collect Authorization cards from employees who are interested in forming a union at their workplace. When there is at least 30% of employees who are interested, then the Union representative will mail those cards to the National Labor Relations Board.
Election Petition Filed– Once the election petition is filed, the Nation Labor Relations Board will conduct an election at the workplace. The employer will never see the authorization cards filled out by the employees and The Labor Board will never tell employer how many cards were filled out.
The NLRB Election– Once the appropriate bargaining unit of employees is selected, the Labor Board will have an election just for the employees that are in the bargaining unit. If one more than 50% of the employees vote yes, then the employer will have to start negotiating with the Union for a contract. The voting is confidential, and employer will never know how you voted.
